DM and EDI plant for industry: building a high-purity treatment train

How pretreatment, RO, demineralization and EDI can be combined for industrial high-purity water requirements.

DM and EDI plant for industry: building a high-purity treatment train
In this guide

This article explains the treatment objective, the design information that matters and the operating checks that help keep the system practical after installation.

Start from the process specification

High-purity applications should define the required conductivity or resistivity, silica or other critical limits, flow and distribution conditions. Those targets determine whether RO alone is sufficient or whether ion exchange, EDI or another polishing stage is needed.

Reduce load before polishing

Pretreatment and RO can remove a large portion of the incoming contaminant load before the final polishing step. This generally makes high-purity production more stable and reduces stress on downstream equipment. Feed limits must be checked for the selected EDI or resin system.

Protect product water after treatment

Storage and distribution can affect final quality after the plant. Tank design, recirculation, materials, sanitization and monitoring should be planned with the same care as the treatment skid when the process is sensitive to contamination or ionic pickup.
