STP plant design in Bangladesh: information to collect before sizing
In this guide

This article explains the treatment objective, the design information that matters and the operating checks that help keep the system practical after installation.

Estimate realistic wastewater flow

Occupancy, water use, operating hours and peak patterns help define the hydraulic basis. A single daily figure may hide morning or evening peaks that affect collection, equalisation and pumping. Where reliable meter data exists, it can improve the estimate.

Separate unusual waste streams

Kitchen grease, workshop discharge, chemicals or process wastewater should not automatically be sent into a domestic STP. Identifying these sources early helps protect the biological process and may require separate pretreatment or handling.

Plan for sludge and operator access

Biological treatment produces sludge that must be managed. Blowers, pumps, diffusers, screens and tanks also require access. Odour control, ventilation, drainage and safe maintenance routes should be considered before finalising the plant layout.
