In this guide
This article explains the treatment objective, the design information that matters and the operating checks that help keep the system practical after installation.
Start from boiler requirements
Boiler pressure, cycles of concentration, condensate return and the manufacturer’s water-quality limits influence makeup treatment. RO can reduce dissolved salts, but it should be selected as part of the boiler-water program rather than as a generic add-on.
Control scaling before RO
Hardness, silica, iron and other feed constituents can limit RO recovery or cause fouling. Softening, filtration, chemical dosing or other pretreatment may be needed depending on the feed analysis.
Polishing may still be necessary
Some higher-pressure or sensitive systems require lower conductivity or silica than RO alone can provide. Ion exchange, EDI or other polishing can be considered when the actual boiler specification justifies it.
