This article explains the treatment objective, the design information that matters and the operating checks that help keep the system practical after installation.
Start with feed water and product target
Industrial RO design begins with a representative feed-water analysis and a clear product-water requirement. TDS alone is not enough. Hardness, alkalinity, silica, iron, manganese, turbidity and other parameters can influence recovery, scaling and fouling risk.
Capacity is more than litres per hour
Plant flow should be matched to daily demand, operating hours, storage and peak consumption. A system designed to run continuously can be smaller than one expected to meet the same daily demand in a short production window. Feed and reject flows also change with recovery.
Build in maintainability
Pressure gauges, flow measurement, conductivity monitoring, sampling points and cleaning provisions make it easier to track membrane performance. Cartridge changes, chemical dosing, membrane cleaning and pump maintenance should be accessible without dismantling the plant.
