Automation should protect the process

Automatic operation is useful when the control system protects pumps and membranes, not simply when a start button is replaced by a PLC. Low feed pressure, high-pressure faults, tank levels and key interlocks should produce predictable responses.

Useful operating signals

Feed and permeate pressure, flow, conductivity, tank level and pump status are common signals. Larger systems may also monitor differential pressure, dosing status and additional water-quality parameters. The exact instrument list should match the risks and required operator visibility.

Keep manual access and records

Even an automatic plant needs maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting. Operators should be able to identify alarms, isolate equipment safely and record trends. A simple operating log often makes gradual changes in pressure, flow or conductivity visible before they become major problems.
