Planning a 2 m³/hr RO plant: flow, storage and pretreatment

How to evaluate a 2 cubic metre per hour RO requirement without copying another site’s treatment train.

Planning a 2 m³/hr RO plant: flow, storage and pretreatment
In this guide

This article explains the treatment objective, the design information that matters and the operating checks that help keep the system practical after installation.

Confirm whether 2 m³/hr is product flow

A capacity statement should specify whether it refers to permeate, feed or total plant throughput. If 2 m³/hr is product-water flow, feed flow will be higher because RO produces a concentrate stream. The actual relationship depends on the selected recovery.

Translate flow into daily production

At 2 m³/hr, theoretical daily production depends on operating hours. Storage and peak demand determine whether the plant must run continuously or only during selected shifts. Downtime for cleaning and maintenance should be included in the planning margin.

Pretreatment remains site specific

The same nominal 2 m³/hr RO plant can need different pretreatment at two locations. A source-water test should drive iron removal, softening, media filtration, dosing, cartridge filtration or other stages rather than using capacity as the only design input.
