Restaurant RO system sizing: drinking, cooking, ice and beverage demand

How restaurants can estimate RO demand and decide where treated water is actually required.

Restaurant RO system sizing: drinking, cooking, ice and beverage demand
In this guide

This article explains the treatment objective, the design information that matters and the operating checks that help keep the system practical after installation.

List the equipment that needs treated water

Drinking taps, ice machines, beverage dispensers, steamers and cooking can have different water-quality needs. Equipment manufacturers may specify hardness, chlorine or TDS limits, so those requirements should be collected before selecting treatment.

Add the demand over the busiest period

A daily total can hide short high-demand periods. Treated-water storage can buffer peaks and allow the RO to operate steadily. Tank turnover and hygiene should still be maintained.

Pretreatment protects both RO and kitchen equipment

Hardness, sediment, chlorine and iron can affect membranes or appliances. The treatment train should be based on source analysis and equipment requirements rather than adding every available filter stage.
