Determine the form of iron

Some groundwater contains mostly dissolved ferrous iron that becomes visible after oxidation, while other water may contain already oxidised particles. The treatment approach should account for this state as well as the total iron concentration.

Oxidation needs the right conditions

Aeration or chemical oxidation may be used to convert dissolved iron into filterable solids. Reaction rate depends on pH and chemistry, so contact time and mixing can matter. Adding an oxidant without adequate filtration simply moves the problem downstream.

Design the filter for solids removal

The media bed must capture precipitated iron and then release it during backwash. Adequate backwash flow, drainage, valve sequencing and maintenance access are essential for long-term performance.
