In this guide
This article explains the treatment objective, the design information that matters and the operating checks that help keep the system practical after installation.
Manganese can be harder to oxidise
Iron and manganese do not always respond at the same rate under the same conditions. A treatment train that removes iron well may still allow manganese breakthrough if pH, oxidant dose or contact conditions are not suitable.
Test both before selecting media
Visible iron staining can dominate attention, but a representative laboratory analysis should check manganese when relevant. Other parameters such as pH, hardness and ammonia may also influence the treatment strategy.
Verify the outlet after commissioning
After the system is operating, treated-water tests should confirm that both contaminants are controlled at the intended flow. Backwash settings and media condition may need adjustment as real operating data becomes available.
