Groundwater may look clear but contain dissolved contaminants

Iron, manganese, hardness, arsenic and dissolved salts may be present even when the source has low turbidity. The treatment train should therefore be based on chemistry, not appearance.

Oxidation and filtration are common for metals

When dissolved iron or manganese must be removed, oxidation conditions and media filtration are often considered. pH and contact time influence performance, and the backwash system must handle the resulting solids.

Membranes or softening depend on the final objective

Hardness control, low-TDS process water or drinking-water polishing may justify softening or RO. Those stages are added because of the measured source and outlet target, not automatically to every bore-well project.
