Office water use has a different pattern from home use
A household purifier is typically sized for a handful of people with fairly predictable, spread-out usage through the day. An office serving dozens or hundreds of employees has concentrated demand around specific times (arrival, lunch, mid-afternoon), a wider range of usage points (pantry, meeting rooms, individual desks in some setups), and often a facilities or admin team responsible for upkeep rather than a single household member who notices when something is wrong. These differences mean the right solution for an office is rarely just "a bigger version of a household purifier" — it is a genuinely different design problem involving flow-rate sizing, distribution point planning, and maintenance accountability.
Centralised versus point-of-use: a real trade-off
Offices generally choose between a centralised system (one larger purification unit feeding multiple dispensing points via plumbing) and multiple smaller point-of-use units (individual coolers/dispensers at each pantry or floor, potentially fed by jar water or individually plumbed). Centralised systems can be more cost-effective at scale and simpler to maintain (fewer units, one service schedule) but require plumbing work across the office and a single point of failure affects the whole office. Point-of-use setups are more flexible to install (especially in leased office space with plumbing restrictions) and localise any failure to a single dispenser, but multiply the number of units needing individual maintenance and monitoring. Neither is universally better — the choice depends on office layout, lease terms, headcount and budget.
Sizing for peak demand, not average daily consumption
An office system sized only for average daily water consumption divided evenly across working hours will typically underperform at actual peak usage times (particularly right after lunch or during back-to-back meetings), leading to slow refill, low pressure at dispensers, or the storage tank running low precisely when demand is highest. Sizing should account for realistic peak-hour demand, headcount growth expectations, and whether the office regularly hosts visitors or larger meetings that add to normal staff demand.
Maintenance accountability is a management issue, not just a technical one
In a household, a lapse in filter replacement is usually noticed quickly by the people directly affected. In an office, without a clearly assigned owner (facilities team, specific staff member, or an outsourced AMC/annual maintenance contract with the supplier), filter and membrane replacement schedules can be silently missed for months, since no single person feels direct, immediate responsibility for it. Establishing a clear maintenance contract or internal schedule with a named responsible party — and logging when maintenance actually happens — is a practical governance step that matters as much as the initial system specification.
Compliance, visitors and brand perception
For offices that host clients, visitors or are subject to any workplace health-and-safety expectations, drinking-water provision is sometimes also a compliance or brand-perception consideration, not purely an operational one — a poorly maintained, visibly grimy dispenser in a client-facing area reflects on the organisation in a way that a household purifier's condition does not carry the same stakes for. This is a reasonable additional factor (alongside pure water-quality and cost considerations) in deciding how much to invest in the system's specification, placement and visible maintenance standard.
