Water access points should be positioned with realistic worker movement patterns in mind
Placing drinking-water access points where workers can realistically and conveniently reach them during actual work breaks — rather than at a single distant location requiring a considerable detour from active work areas — meaningfully affects whether workers actually use the provided safe water source consistently, rather than resorting to a more convenient but untested alternative source out of practical necessity during a short break.
Handover documentation to the eventual permanent facility owner, where relevant
Where a construction project's temporary water infrastructure is intended to transition into part of the permanent facility's eventual water supply (rather than being fully decommissioned at project completion), clear handover documentation — what was tested, what treatment was applied, what condition the infrastructure is actually in — should be provided to whoever takes over responsibility for the permanent facility's water supply, rather than leaving the new occupant to discover and reassess the infrastructure's actual history and condition from scratch once occupancy begins.
Budget for water provision should be treated as a genuine project cost line, not an afterthought
Water treatment and safe supply for a construction workforce should be included as an explicit, budgeted line item within the overall project cost from the earliest planning stage, rather than treated as a minor operational detail to be funded informally or reactively once the workforce is already mobilised — this ensures adequate funding is actually available for proper testing, treatment and ongoing maintenance throughout the project's duration, rather than competing informally against other, more visible construction costs for limited discretionary funds.
Coordinating with the main construction schedule avoids water provision becoming an afterthought
