Capacity and storage
A purifier's production capacity (how quickly it can produce treated water) and whether it includes a storage tank (versus tankless, on-demand designs) both affect price — higher capacity and larger storage generally cost more, and which is appropriate depends on household size and typical usage pattern rather than assuming bigger is automatically better for every household.
Number and type of filtration stages
More filtration stages (additional prefilters, post-carbon polishing, remineralisation) generally add cost, and whether each stage is actually necessary depends on the specific source water — paying for stages the water does not need adds cost without a corresponding water-quality benefit, which is another reason testing before buying matters.
Build quality and expected service life
Housing material, membrane and component quality, and manufacturer reputation for consistent quality all factor into price differences between visually similar products, and can affect how long the unit performs reliably before components need replacement or the unit needs replacing entirely — a genuinely useful price comparison accounts for expected service life, not just the sticker price.
Installation and after-sales support
Whether installation is included, what warranty applies, and what after-sales service and consumable availability looks like are all part of the real cost and value of a purifier — a lower purchase price paired with poor consumable availability or no service support can end up costing more over time than a slightly higher-priced option with reliable after-sales support.
Making a fair comparison between options
Rather than comparing purifier prices as a single number, compare like-for-like: same technology type, similar capacity, similar included scope (installation, warranty, consumables) — and match the technology to what your actual source water testing shows is needed, rather than choosing based on price alone.
